30 days of arthurian romances - day#30: Guinevere and Mordred (+ the List)

do you ship them?
Yes. I used to ship them more some years ago, but I still ship them.

is this your OTP for those characters?
Unfortunately not. Arthur/Guinevere and Mordred/Galahad are my otps.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I probably dislike the age difference and the fact that in every novel I read Guinevere doesn’t want to betray Arthur and Mordred wants to force her into a marriage.

when did you start shipping them?
Just after reading Geoffrey of Monmouth.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
Fragolalidia (if I am not wrong) wrote an amazing Italian fanfiction on EFP. It is still my favourite written version of this pairing along with Geoffrey of Monmouth (where Guinevere seems perfectly fine with marrying Mordred to take the power).
I don’t have a particular least favourite portrait, there are too much of them where Mordred forces Guinevere.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
There is nothing. So I used this pic. Ha, she is not Guinevere, unfortunately, but he is a fine Mordred.

a headcanon about them
In my headcanon, Guinevere is a dutiful wife but slowly starts to want to partecipate more into politics. She feels like her idea are best and she could do more for the kingdom than Arthur. But Arthur is the king and doesn’t always listen at her ideas.
Mordred is Arthur’s young nephiew (or son) and he is very idealistic (but about Guinevere’s age). He loves talking about the future of Camelot with Guinevere and they have a lot in common.
When they hear that Arthur is dead against the Roman Empire, Guinevere is happy to say yes at Mordred’s proposal of marriage and they marry and start to rule Camelot together. When Arthur comes back… they have no intention of seeing him again on the throne also because they fear the repercussions for themselves.
Tragic end.

30 days of arthurian romances - day#29: Gawain and Bercilak (+ the List)

do you ship them?
YES.

is this your OTP for those characters?
As much as I like the pairing I still consider Gawain/Ragnelle my otp.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I obviously dislike the fact that Bercilak is married. But I guess he has an open marriage and sometimes I ship Lady Bercilak/Morgan so that’s okay.
I like the canon and the kisses.

when did you start shipping them?
Just after reading Gawain and the Green Knight.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
My favourite portrait is in Gawain and the Green knight because, well, all other novels I’ve read about this have the Green Knight being quite cold and they just cut out the kisses. But I don’t have a least favourite portrait.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
I adore Gawain and the Green Knight (John Howe)… not very slash but surely it is the best paiting/art about Gawain and Bercilak.

a headcanon about them
My headcanon is mostly that every character in that Green Knight story has a different purpose. Morgana wants to jokily scare Guinevere, Gawain wants to prove himself, Lady Bercilak wants to convince his husband to find a lover (because she has Morgan) and Bercilak wants to prove the values of Arthur’s court because he is a fan.
Somehow, everyone gets their wishes but Gawain.

30 days of arthurian romances - day#28: Lot and Morgause (+ the List)

do you ship them?
Sometimes. I actually ship Lot/Ambition/Morgause.

is this your OTP for those characters?
I still prefer Morgause/Lamorak.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I like when in novel Morgause uses Lot to escape from Uther and for her own ambition and Lot uses Morgause for status and ambition. I dislike it when they are too cruel towards each others and it’s quite a common cliché in books.

when did you start shipping them?
I don’t remember… I think I already was shipping them when I’ve watched The Mists of Avalon for the first time so I don’t remember.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
Nothing! But my least favourite portrait is in Down the long wind.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
Unfortunately there is not art or painting- but I associate this song to them. I know it is a song singed by only one character but I can easily see Lot and Morgause singing it in a duet: I will prevail.

a headcanon about them
My main headcanon is about them being friends. Really friends. They are friendly towards each other, they are affectionate and they have an open marriage. They are aware of the fact that they are both using their marriage and their children for their own ambitions and they are perfectly okay with it.

30 days of arthurian romances - day#27: Morgause and Lamorak (+ the List)

do you ship them?
Yes!

is this your OTP for those characters?
I think my Morgause otp is Morgause/ambition so Lamorak/Morgause is not really my otp but it is a pairing I really like.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I like the fact that it’s canon and I find Lamorak very sweet. Everyone is narrating about Guinevere’s beauty but Lamorak is the only one who talks about Morgause’s beauty and his love for her. It is really as if he is the only one who sees her beauty because he is really deeply in love with her.
And I like the irony: Lamorak is the son of the man who killed Morgause’s late husband Lot.

when did you start shipping them?
I started with Malory… or was it Lancelot-Grail? No, I think it was Malory: the part where Lamorak defend’s Morgause’s beauty.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
I don’t have a favourite or a least favourite portrait. It seems like Morgause/Lamorak is not a popular pairing and it is only used to justify/explain Gaheris or Agravain killing Morgause. Still in some novels it is said that Morgause slept with Lamorak because she loved him and not for political reasons or lust.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
Norhing, unfortunately.

a headcanon about them
My headcanon is that Morgause meets Lamorak but she doesn’t know who he is and he doesn’t know who she is. They fall in love, quite quickly, and when they find out about each other’s real identities they don’t have much problems about it. Lamorak starts to court Morgause and wants to marry her and finally Morgause feels happy and in love for the first time in her life.

30 days of arthurian romances - day#26: Mark and Iseut (+ the List)

do you ship them?
Sometimes. Not really, but sometimes I do.

is this your OTP for those characters?
No. Palamedes/Iseult/Tristan is my favourite OT3.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I love the idea of Iseult and Mark trapped (both of them) in that marriage. Mark didn’t really seemed like a guy who wanted to marry (at least in Tristan prose… he was really trying to not get married) and Iseult happened to fall in love with another man. This is really a sad reason to like a paring, I know.

when did you start shipping them?
I started with Tristan prose.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
I don’t have a favourite or a least favourite portrait. It seems like Mark is a despicable guy in every book I read even in the ones where he starts off as a nice lad. And Iseult is always very self centered a part for some exceptions like in Persia Woolley’s series.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
My song is Nobody’s side. And my favourite art is this one by Maurice Lalau is because CHESS. And because it is finally a picture of Iseult and Mark doing something which is not chasing and killing each other or Tristan.

a headcanon about them
My headcanon is that Mark is gay or asexual or for some other reason he doesn’t want to marry a woman or marry at all (actually it is canon) and so he decides to randomly marry the woman whose blond hair accidentally arrived at his window. I don’t believe that hair belonged to Iseult but I like to think that Mark’s noblemen asked Tristan to find an acceptable young blond woman and while he was wounded he found Iseult. The noblemen were happy but Tristan and Iseult fell in love.
Their love lasts for years and it is passionate and burning and full of fights and angst but Iseult starts to feel like she needs more stability and she feels guilty or not taing enough responsabilities as a queen. So she returns to Mark and they fall in love (or not, they have an open marriage or… just friends).

30 days of arthurian romances - day#25: Kay and Guinevere (+ the List)

do you ship them?
Not usually.

is this your OTP for those characters?
No, my Guinevere otp is Guinevere/Arthur and I have a milions of Kay otp.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I actually prefer the idea of them as best friends and working together to have a better Camelot. And also the idea of Guinevere as Kay’s confidant and the reverse. I guess I feel a little unconfortable with the idea of Guinevere/Kay as a love story but I still quite like Kay as one sided in love with Guinevere.

when did you start shipping them?
I started with Persia Woolley But not really.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
In Persia Woolley the story is cure. Also in Phyllis Ann Karr also if Guinevere was a very secondary character.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
Unfortunately there is nothing.

a headcanon about them
I only have headcanons about their friendship and how they evilly run Camelot together.

30 days of arthurian romances - day#24: Cerdic* and Mordred (+ the List)

*I wrote Cerdic but I actually mean “the son of the big saxon boss that Arthur defeats”. In some books he is called Cerdic and in others Cynric.

do you ship them?
Yes, sometimes.

is this your OTP for those characters?
No, my Mordred otp is Galahad/Mordred. Cerdic/Mordred is my second favourite Mordred otp.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I love the idea of two ‘enemy’ culture. In arthurian stuff Saxons are the enemy, they are evil, cruel etc. I love the idea of Mordred slowly finding out that Saxons have a culture (and sometime a lot more sensible than his own) and are people and not only faceless enemies to fight. And the same for Cerdic.

when did you start shipping them?
I probably started with Sword at Sunset (Rosemary Sutcliff)… but Mordred and Cerdic don’t meet each others if I remember correctly! Cerdic is Arthur’s main enemy and Mordred becomes Arthur enemy… I thought they would be amazing together.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
In Persia Woolley they are perfect. They meet when they are teenager and they become unseparable and best friend. Like in my headcanon, Mordred starts dressing as a Saxon and appreciating the Saxon culture more and more because of Cerdic.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
Unfortunately there is nothing.

a headcanon about them
Ops, once I’ve wrote a story where Cerdic asked for a combined marriage with Mordred but it was an anachronistic and ironic story.
I guess my main headcanon is that, thanks to Cerdic, Mordred starts to understand and appreciate more the Saxon traditions and culture and this may be one of the reasons of contrast with Arthur.

30 days of arthurian romances - day#23: Kay and Lancelot (+ the List)

do you ship them?
Yes, sometimes.

is this your OTP for those characters?
Not really. I don’t have a Lancelot otp because I usually don’t like him enough but I guess, among all the pairings with him, this is the one I prefer. And my Kay otp should be Bedivere/Kay but I ship Kay with too many arthurian characters.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I like the fact that they are not usually written as friends. Kay seems to be extremely close to Arthur and Guinevere and so does Lancelot.
I like the potential UST that could come out from such a pairing. They both want to please Arthur and Guinevere, they both love them and they are both jealous of their different roles (one the champion and the other one the seneschal).
THE UST!

when did you start shipping them?
I started a half Morte d’Arthur (Malory). There was this scene where they sleep together (in the same bed) in a monastery (or something like that) and Kay is wounded or very tired so, the morning after, Lancelot takes Kay’s armor and leaves him. This way, Kay will have Lancelot’s armor and people usually don’t attack Lancelot because he is too strong. Kay reaches Camelot witout being attacked by other knights while Lancelot fights a lot and raises Kay’s status because he is using Kay’s armor.
Indescribable feelings.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
This may seem strange but my favourite Lancelot/Kay portrait is in Exiled from Camelot (Cherith Baldry). They are both well written characters without any bashing, they both love Arthur and Guinevere and Kay is incredibly jealous of the fact that Lancelot can fight while he has to stay in the castle. They don’t trust each other but they will learn to.
I guess I don’t like the idea of Kay/Lancelot in Idylls of the Queen but only because I can’t ship Kay with anyone but Guinevere in that novel.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
I don’t know any art but I think I hate everything about you is perfect.

a headcanon about them
In my headcanon Kay thinks Lancelot is in love with Guinevere because he is always around them (and Kay and Guinevere are pretty inseparable) and he is angry because he feels like Lancelot doesn’t give him attention and he is also betraying Arthur.
Lancelot thinks Kay is in love with Arthur and/or Guinevere because he is always around them.
The court at Camelot thinks Lancelot is in love with Guinevere.
Guinevere is tired to be depicted as the evil seducer just because she is a woman and thinks Lancelot and Kay wants each other.
Hilarity and UST usually happens. This is a happy pairing after all.

OR, usually I like to think that Merlin tries everything he can to make Lancelot and Kay fall in love because he knows that if not Lancelot will start noticing Guinevere.

30 days of arthurian romances - day#22: Iseult and Palamedes (+ the List)

do you ship them?
YES. A lot.

is this your OTP for those characters?
Palamedes/Iseult/Tristan is my perfect adorable OT3. I both love AU with this OT3 and canon stories. I’ve already talked about this here, here and here.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I dislike the fact that Iseult chose Tristan, but it’s not her fault she fell in love with him. Actually this pairing is mostly built from my headcanons.

when did you start shipping them?
I think I started with some modern AU I was writing. Suddenly Isolde was Pam’s girlfriend and Pam was Palamedes. Yes, usually I write Palamedes as biologically a woman in modern reincarnation.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
My favourite portrait is in Persia Woolley’s trilogy. It was not a love story because Iseult loved Tristan, but Palamedes was a wonderful character and so was Iseult and their interactions were incredibly sweet (and heartbreaking because Palamedes loved her but she didn’t see it).

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
I guess every kind of song about one sided love could be fine.

a headcanon about them
A part from my OT3 headcanons I also have a modern AU headcanon where Isobel (Iseult) is a policewoman and Pam (Palamedes) is a nurse and also a woman. Usually they remember about their past. Because angst. I love angst.

30 days of arthurian romances - day#21: Tristan and Palamedes (+ the List)

do you ship them?
Not really.

is this your OTP for those characters?
No, I prefer Palamedes/Iseult or Palamedes/Iseult/Tristan.

what do you like/dislike about this pairing?
I dislike, obviously, the fact that they are fighting over a woman. But that is also something I may like because my headcanon about my OT3 is basically based on that.

when did you start shipping them?
I don’t remember… I think it started from nowhere. Maybe I was reading something from Malory or rereading it and I decided to write a story about Palamedes’ death. And suddenly the story changed into a duel between Palamedes and Tristan where Palamedes wanted to die (at the hands of Tristan because Iseult deserved Tristan and Palamedes couldn’t have Iseult) and Tristan only wanted to be noticed because he was in love with Palamedes.
At the end Tristan won the duel and killed Palamedes.

your favourite and least favourite portrait of this couple in novels/fanfictions.
No portraits of Tristan and Palamedes together D: this is so sad.

what is your favourite art and /or song you associate with this pairing?
The art is my OT3!

a headcanon about them
My headcanon was my fanfic. Because my main headcanons are Palamedes/Tristan/Iseult.
