I just think the original poster had a very valid point, but the world objectifying was the wrong one to use. Yes suffering all comes down to chemical reactions but plants cannot be considered to suffer because it’s a construct of the conscious mind

I guess you missed my point.

I asked her if she thought that there was a severe/distinct separation between regna. She answered yes.

She said that porifera suffers because they are animals. And that plants do not becayse they do not run away in case of a wound. (all this in the part of the discussion in her blog, from my questions in her ask)

The last part of the discussion was actually about her accusing me of objectifying animals so, really, the word “object” was fundamental. She used it and we were talking about that world.

As I said. Animals suffer. We suffer. We have similar nervous systems. So we relate better with their suffering. But suffering is a way to protect ourselves. And plants do it too. They do not have a coscience, they are not sentient, but they protect themselves from danger.

May I ask you how animal suffers? What is that makes them/us suffer?

Also, I wasn’t saying “Animals and plants suffer both so we eat both”. It’s obvious that I relate more to animal suffering because that’s similar to my suffering. I have more difficulties to relate to the suffering of porifera because that’s different from mine but I relate to it anyway. And to plants.
